The replica of the legendary Berlin nightclub Berghain that Philip Topolovac has made out of cork takes its cue from miniature replicas of famous buildings created in Italy in the eighteenth century. These made it possible for interested people to study the outstanding architecture from the comfort of their own homes. In his sculpture, Topolovac transfers this cultural practice and its technique to the present day. The internationally famed nightclub Berghain, regarded as a must-see for today’s hip traveller, remains for many a place of longing due to its geographic distance and the great difficulty of gaining entrance.
